Parent Power

Funded by the People’s Health Trust, The Parent Power Group has gone from strength to strength in arranging and overseeing children’s activities on the estate.

They have organised activities and groups such as the Junior Youth Club alongside Nicky Lannen from Ravenscliffe Youth Club which has been an overwhelming success with up to 40 children attending weekly. The Karate group has supported local children in gaining confidence, creating new friendships and learning new skills. It has seen children complete karate qualifications and win trophies in competitions.

We have previously provided children’s cooking sessions, school holiday activities, trips out, large scale community events and parties. The project has around half a year left to run and we are currently sourcing further funding for continuation. If being a part of a group that speaks out for the young people of the community sounds like something you would be interested in then contact us or drop in to the Gateway to see how you can become a part of the parent power group.

Our Services ...

… were delivered from a small community centre in the basement of the local housing Office until January 2005, when we moved into our new £1.8m purpose built community facility. After 4 years of project planning and organisational development The Gateway Centre was opened in 2005, a £1.8m multi-purpose community facility, which includes a Sure Start Childrens Centre and full day care Nursery. Funding for the building was secured from Sure Start Capital Funding and other funding streams, and is now managed in partnership with The Childrens Society, who are commissioned to deliver the Children’s Centre and Nursery.
