Gateway History

Established over 20 years ago, Ravenscliffe Community Association (RCA) was set up by, and is still run by, a voluntary committee of local residents. Its aim is to tackle poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and deprivation in Ravensclffe and Greengates which are areas of acknowledged poverty and multiple stress and are in the top 10% of deprived wards in the UK. RCA is a not-for -profit limited Liability Company ( Company Registration No. 4752045 and Registered Charity No. 1099461) Over the last 5 years RCA has grown in confidence and capacity and has emerged as a key local community enterprise. Our services were delivered from a small community centre in the basement of the local housing Office until January 2005, when we moved into our new £1.8m purpose built community facility. After 4 years of project planning and organisational development The Gateway Centre was opened in 2005, a £1.8m multi-purpose community facility, which includes a Sure Start Childrens Centre and full day care Nursery. Funding for the building was secured from Sure Start Capital Funding and other funding streams, and is now managed in partnership with The Childrens Society, who are commissioned to deliver the Children’s Centre and Nursery.
